Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #17
4th October, 2015
Saturday saw attention turn mainly towards the Second Round Qualifying of the FA Vase with 21 Toolstation NCEL sides looking to keep on the Road to Wembley next May.
Sadly, eleven fell by the wayside but ten go on to the next stage which takes place at the end of the month.
Three sides - Maltby Main, Athersley Recreation and Selby Town - went through at the expense of league rivals.
Maltby were 2-0 home winners over Bottesford Town whilst goals from Ryan Blackburn and Daniel Joynes saw Athersley progress by the same scoreline at Penistone Church and Selby beat hosts Westella VIP, 3-1, with Craig Muirhead, Dane Mortimer and Will Ramsey getting the Robins' goals.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare were one of three sides to win at teams from other leagues, Jason Yates getting the only goal of the game in their victory at Bacup Borough.
Dexter Atkinson scored twice in Clipstone's 4-1 triumph at Greenwood Meadows and Mark Simpson's eighth minute strike was enough to send Garforth Town through at Whickham.
Armthorpe Welfare came from 2-0 down at the interval as goals from Joe Lumsden, Tom McLaughlin and Stuart Preston gave them a 3-2 victory at home to Ashton Town whilst Joe Butler and Daniel Hoyland found the net for Dronfield Town as they defeated visitors Bootle, 2-1.
There was a hat-trick for Michael Blythen in Hallam's 4-3 home win over Harworth Colliery Institute and a Kieran Wells double helped Handsworth Parramore through, 3-2, at the expense of visitors Cheadle Town.
The sides to bow out were AFC Emley, Bridlington Town, Hall Road Rangers, Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Retford United, Rossington Main, Teversal and Yorkshire Amateur.
In the Premier Division, Tadcaster Albion climbed back to the top of the table with a 4-1 home win over Pickering Town on Friday night.
The game was over before half-time as the Brewers scored all their goals in the opening 33 minutes, Josh Greening's opener added to by a couple of Jimmy Beadle penalties and a strike from Adam Baker whilst the Pikes got a consolation midway through the second period from Ryan Cooper.
Cleethorpes Town are up to fourth following their fifth league victory in a row, Marc Cooper with a dramatic winner two minutes from time to beat hosts Thackley, 3-2, after the home side had taken a 2-0 first half lead through a Ben Beckles double.
One of the sides Cleethorpes have leapfrogged over is Albion Sports who drop to seventh after a 4-1 loss at Staveley Miners Welfare with two each for Courtney Hastings and Kieran Watson for the Trojans.
Brigg Town remain in the basement after a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Rainworth Miners Welfare, Liam Morris netting two of the Wrens' goals and, in the division's other game of the day, Parkgate and Nostell Miners Welfare played out a 1-1 draw.
There were two matches in Division One with Eccleshill United and Shirebrook Town claiming victories.
Liam Bartle got the only goal as Eccleshill saw off visitors Glasshoughton Welfare to move up into eleventh and Shirebrook Town are now thirteenth after their 4-2 win at Grimsby Borough with second half goals from Callum Mawbey, Antony Rowley and Robert Camm sealing the three points.
Two matches were postponed with the highly anticipated Division One game between Hull United and AFC Mansfield called off due to ground unavailability whilst the West Riding County Cup clash between Liversedge and Pontefract Collieries did not go ahead due to a lack of match officials.
