Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #3
16th August, 2015
Nine Toolstation NCEL sides booked their place in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup in a fortnight's time with a victory over the weekend whilst seven others have a second chance to join them in midweek.
It means, however, that fourteen of our teams fell at the first stage with five of them put out by league rivals.
Staveley Miners Welfare were eliminated from the competition with a 6-0 defeat at Handsworth Parramore, Jon Froggatt getting four of the home side's goals, whilst there was also a heavy away loss for Brigg Town who went down 5-1 at Cleethorpes Town.
A David Buck double sent Armthorpe Welfare through at the expense of hosts Hemsworth Miners Welfare with a 2-1 victory and Aaron Moxon got both of Pontefract Collieries' goals in a 2-0 win at Penistone Church.
Then, on Sunday, Parkgate were ruthlessly dispatched by hosts AFC Emley who won 7-1 with Ashley Flynn striking four times for the Division One side against their Premier Division visitors.
Other sides to take a step into the next round were Clipstone, Pickering Town, Tadcaster Albion and Thackley.
Clipstone won 3-2 at St Andrews with early goals from Michael Trench and Alex Nightingale putting them on their way before Jamie McAllister also found the net in the second period.
Pickering went through 4-0 at home to Thornaby, the second of two games played on Sunday, Mike Garrod scored twice in Thackley's 3-1 victory at Durham City and Tadcaster won by the same scoreline at Hebburn Town.
Amongst those who have replays to try and swell the NCEL's ranks at the next stage are Albion Sports, Maltby Main, Barton Town Old Boys and Glasshoughton Welfare who all drew 2-2 at Ashington, at Ashton Athletic, at home to Squires Gate and at home to Runcorn Linnets, respectively, whilst Nostell Miners Welfare will also play again after a goalless draw at Congleton Town.
Rainworth Miners Welfare will host Bottesford Town in midweek after they shared four goals as well.
Those sides whose FA Cup adventure is over until next season after defeats against teams from other leagues are AFC Mansfield, Athersley Recreation, Bridlington Town, Garforth Town, Liversedge, Retford United, Shirebrook Town, Worksop Town and Yorkshire Amateur.
Meanwhile, in Division One, Hallam made it three wins out of three to top the table after Steve Brammer's hat-trick, with one from the penalty spot, earned them a 4-1 victory at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Four teams are on six points after they also won with Ashley Hope netting twice for Selby Town as they triumphed, 5-2, at home to Grimsby Borough.
A crowd of 617 saw Hull United defeat visitors Dronfield Town, 3-0, with goals from Brett Agnew, Jamie Richardson and Matty Start whilst Teversal's excellent start to the campaign continued as David Cockerill struck the winner as they beat hosts Hall Road Rangers, 2-1.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic defeated Rossington Main, 2-0, Oliver Fearon and Jack Portman with the goals for the visitors.
Eccleshill United were top scorers of the day as they won 7-2 at home to Winterton Rangers, Luke Harrop with a hat-trick and a brace for Joe Firth helping them to a comfortable victory.
And, Ally Wilson's header eleven minutes from time proved vital for Knaresborough Town as they defeated visitors Westella VIP, 2-1.
