Promotion, relegation issues to be discussed

29th July, 2017

Clubs in the Toolstation NCEL will this weekend get a chance to discuss what could happen with regards to promotion and relegation in the competition at the end of the 2017/18 season.

Normal rules may not apply due to the planned introduction of a new Step 3 and 4 division higher up the National League System whilst the number of teams in both of our divisions is scheduled to be cut from 22 to 20 clubs in line with the FA's NLS Regulations (click here to read them).

That means a number of "worst case scenarios" could occur, depending on how many sides get promotion from the Premier Division and how many teams are available to come up from Step 7.

Lateral movement could also occur due to the creation of new Step 6 leagues across the country which would limit the number of teams relegated from that level but that, the FA say, would come down to the location of clubs.

Clubs will be able to explore all these scenarios and put their opinions at a pre-season meeting that takes place on Sunday.

The meeting will cover a wide range of topics affecting the NCEL including new rules regarding disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the league has announced that the list of match officials for August's Division One games will be released on Monday.
