New Kit for the Main

19th February, 2014

Rossington Main have announced that their local Labour Club have stepped in to buy the club a new kit.

Avid supporters for the last few years, the committee of the regularly used club were keen to extend their support of what they see as exciting times ahead for the Toolstation NCEL Division One side.

Rossington Labour Club is one of the most popular venues in the village with live entertainment on every weekend in the large concert room along with the usual sessions of bingo through the week and the club are delighted to be supported by them.

Andy Lee, Rossington Labour Club secretary, said that "the Labour Club is proud to be sponsors of Rossington Main FC."

At a recent game, a photo shoot took place with Andy Lee (left), Main chairman Carl Stokes (right) and manager Steve Brennan (middle) handing over a replica shirt to the Labour Club.

Ton Up for Holmes

30th December, 2013

Rossington Main player/assistant manager Lee Holmes notched up his 100th NCEL goal for the Doncaster club and his 116th in all competitions at the weekend.

He scored a 62nd minute equaliser in the game against AFC Emley on Saturday to reach the milestone.

Lee (pictured right) has had various spells away from the club where he has also enjoyed scoring but it is with his home club that he has netted the most.

He returned to the club on the appointment of Steve Brennan in November and has continued where he left off in 2011.

His Main career started in the 2004/05 season where he netted six times at the tender age of 16, beginning from the bench against Carlton Town on 9th October 2004 with another bench appearance the following week.

He made his first team debut in a 1-0 defeat at Gedling Town in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy ten days later then his NCEL debut came on 23rd October 2004 where he scored at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in a 5-2 defeat from the right-back position.

Appearances were limited in that first season and just another five goals were netted for the striker.

Again, during the 2005/06 season, appearances were limited and seven goals were the tally for Lee.

A spell away from the club saw him return in the 2007/08 season with thirteen goals.

His most prolific season so far at the club came in the 2008/09 season when he got 30 goals including two hat-tricks. An early highlight in that season saw him put the Main 1-0 up within four minutes of the pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers to add to that tally.

2009/10 saw 22 goals while just ten goals came in 2010-11 with three of those coming in one of the greatest games in recent memory for the club, the semi-final of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, a 5-3 victory away at Louth Town.

24 goals were the total for the 2011/12 season but, once again, Lee was drawn away from the club for a while until his recent return.

Main say Lee is looking hungry and the added responsibility of assistant manager doesn't seem to have hindered the continued progress he is making.

Brennan is New Main Man

16th November, 2013

After the recent resignation of Rossington Main first team manager of three-and-a-half years, Steve Lodge, the club decided to break from the norm, promoting through the club, and advertise the post further afield.

The club were delighted to receive plenty of interest and the initial applicants were narrowed down to a shortlist with interviews held this week.

The range of applicants was varied and the committee had a tough decision to make on who would be the next guy to turn around the fortunes of the club.

A decision was made and Steven Brennan was the successful candidate.

Steve comes from the role of Scarborough Athletic Reserve Team Head Coach, a role he did alongside the one at Hull University.

Steve is a UEFA B licensed Coach, with the UEFA A to be taken in June 2014, and is also qualified in FA Sports Psychology.

Steve will be bringing in an Assistant, Sean Chapman, to assist in the running of the squad and will be involved this Saturday in the away game at second-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

He will be meeting the squad, that caretaker boss Dave Burley has chosen, in the morning before travelling to Barnsley for the club's and his first visit to the newcomers to the league.

Main have also thanked Burley for stepping in as caretaker.

Chairman Carl Stokes (pictured) said: "The committee and I are delighted with the appointment of our new first team manager Steve Brennan and his assistant manager Sean Chapman.

"After two weeks of interviewing some very strong candidates to whom we thank, it was Steve and Sean who stood out for us as we feel they are the team to take Rossington Main forwards.

"With their experience gained at Scarborough Athletic and Hull University this will be a great benefit to the Main not only the first team squad but to the young talent we have coming through.

"Rossington Main are also committed to devolving our links with Rossington Juniors as this is very important for our community. Steven has already put forwards some great ideas for this development to grow.

"Scarborough Athletic's loss is our gain and comments from their chairman and manager show how highly they were regarded at their club.

"Rossington Main have the new SAS - I am sure our supporters are in for a treat with plenty of young talented footballers on show down at Oxford Street."

13th June, 2013

Due to an opening appearing in the coaching staff at Rossington Main, a position of physio for matchdays, home and away, and some training sessions has arisen.
