Collins and Chambers are new Ollerton management team

31st May, 2023

Ollerton Town have announced that Craig Collins and Tom Chambers are the club's new joint managers.

Their appointment comes following the departure of Richard Hannigan last week with the Nottinghamshire outfit looking to build solid foundations for the upcoming campaign after a turbulent last few months at the FastFrame.

A statement released on Ollerton's website said: "Craig initially arrived as part of Richard Hannigan's backroom staff but, after Richard moved to Dunkirk, Craig expressed a desire to remain at the club.

"With the nucleus of a team already pencilled in, and given the recent turmoil at the club and our need for stability, the club spoke to Craig and felt giving him the chance to step up to the main job was in the best interests of the club with the new season fast approaching.

"Craig has just completed his UEFA B Licence and currently works as Head of Academy Education and Performance Analysis at Doncaster Rovers after previously working as a Youth Development Phase Coach.

"His CV also includes a role at Rossington Main and he has already used his experience and passion for the game to put the necessary plans in place for pre-season."

Turning its attention to Chambers, the statement continued: "Tom brings with him a wealth of coaching experience and contacts in the local game.

"Tom spent fifteen years on and off at Hatfield Town as a player before stepping up to the manager's job.

"He, like Craig, also has experience of working within Doncaster Rovers' academy set up and can also list Leeds United and the City Football Group on his list of previous employers. Tom also has a UEFA B Licence.

"We welcome both to the club and, with pre-season training now less than two weeks away, we all look forward to getting the 2023/24 season underway."

Ollerton have also announced that they have withdrawn their appeal to the FA's rejection of the club's application for lateral movement to the United Counties League and so they will be part of Toolstation NCEL Division One for the upcoming campaign.

Hannigan leaves Ollerton

24th May, 2023

Ollerton Town have announced that manager Richard Hannigan, who was appointed to the role in April, has left the club to take the reins at United Counties League side Dunkirk.

It comes as the Nottinghamshire outfit awaits their appeal to the FA's decision to turn down their request for a lateral move to the league of his new club.

Ollerton were listed as staying in Toolstation NCEL Division One for the 2023/24 season when the line-ups were unveiled last week.

A statement released by the club said: "We thank [Richard] for his efforts at the club during his short spell in charge, and for his full transparency and honesty over the past week.

"We appreciate those on the outside may question or criticise but, as a club, we are steadfast in our belief that at that time we made the best decision we could, choosing the best candidate available, despite being aware of the difficulties Rich would face if our application for lateral movement to the United Counties League was unsuccessful.

"Though the club is appealing the FA's decision, due to the factors much greater than simply choice of manager, Richard was presented with another opportunity he wished to take.

"Given the uncertainty, it was decided to be in the best interest of all parties to end that uncertainty and agree to a mutual parting of the ways.

"Whilst we are obviously disappointed at Richard's departure, we wish him the very best for the future.

"Though this is another bump in the road for the club, we believe we are still on the right path and heading towards the stability we are seeking after a turbulent few months."

Ollerton say that they are close to finalising a successor and hope to have an announcement within the next couple of days.

Hannigan is new Ollerton boss

19th April, 2023

Ollerton Town have announced the appointment of Richard Hannigan as the club's new first team manager.

A statement released by the Toolstation NCEL Division One side said: "It has been a long recruitment process but the club feels that they have secured the stand-out candidate, someone who matches their principles and ambitions and someone who will be able to not only stabilise the football club after a difficult period, but drive the club forward and better it on and off the pitch."

Hannigan began his managerial career at Linby Colliery Welfare before moving to Blidworth Welfare where he enjoyed great success, winning the Central Midlands League South Division title and earning promotion to the United Counties League.

Work commitments ended his time with Blidworth prematurely but, with those commitments now cleared, he is able to get back into the game and is keen to get going with Ollerton.

"I’ve been out of the game now for seven or eight months so I’m really looking forward to next season and the challenge ahead," said the new Town gaffer.

"I think it’s important to have those early conversations with people that you want to get in as a priority.

"[I'm] definitely looking to get started as soon as possible and starting to get pre-season organised."

On the appointment of Hannigan, a club spokesman was full of praise for the successful candidate, saying: "Richard was someone who was suggested to us right at the very start of the process.

"It's taken us a while, but we've finally managed to get him to commit and we couldn't be more pleased.

"Having gotten to know Rich over the past few weeks, it's clear why people think highly enough of him to put his name forward and in truth, he was the stand out candidate and someone who impressed all of us.

"We think he shares our values and he got straight away what we wanted from a manager, and thankfully we seem to match what he wanted from his next club.

"We look forward to working together over the summer to hopefully make the next season a successful one."

Parkinson appointed until end of season

28th February, 2023

Former Gainsborough Trinity joint-manager Damon Parkinson will be taking charge of Ollerton Town's first team until the end of the season, the Toolstation NCEL Division One side have announced.

A statement released by the club said that Parkinson "will bring plenty of positive energy and experience to the club" as they look to end the season as strongly as possible.

It added: "Parkinson was previously at Newark Town before moving on to become assistant manager at Frickley Athletic.

"He then took his next step by joining Gainsborough Trinity and, in May 2022 alongside former Notts County and Mansfield Town player Neal Bishop, he was appointed as joint-manager of the Northern Premier League side.

"Parkinson was sadly forced to step down due to health concerns but is now back on the touchline and raring to go.

"With a busy March ahead of us, it will continue to be a busy time behind the scenes and further updates shall follow in due course."

The change in the dugout comes after it was revealed earlier this month that manager Steve Bodle would be leaving Ollerton to join neighbours and Division One rivals Shirebrook Town at the end of the season.

Bodle to leave Ollerton for neighbours

18th February, 2023

Ollerton Town have announced that manager Steve Bodle will leave them at the end of the season with fellow Toolstation NCEL Division One side Shirebrook Town subsequently revealing he will join them as their new boss.

A statement released by Ollerton on Friday morning read: "After Wednesday night’s game against Athersley Recreation, manager Steve Bodle informed the club of his decision to resign at the end of the season to take up another opportunity elsewhere.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Steve for over ten years of service, both as an assistant manager and first team manager.

"Steve’s assistant Lee Needham has left the club with immediate effect.

"Coach Daz Smith shall remain at the club but leave with Steve at the end of the season.

"We, of course, thank them for their service.

"The club’s focus is now on getting through to the end of the season, where decisions regarding the club’s immediate and long term future shall be made."

Their neighbours Shirebrook then put out the following statement on their social media: "Shirebrook Town are pleased to announce the appointment of former player Stephen Bodle as first team manager for the 2023/2024 season.

"Stephen, who played for Shirebrook between 2007 and 2010, is a vastly experienced manager who has been at Ollerton Town in a variety of managerial roles for eleven years, including as first team manager for the past two seasons.

"Stephen will be joined by assistants Lee Needham and Darren Smith, both of whom have been part of his team this season which has seen Ollerton pushing for the play-offs.

"Assistant manager Lee Needham will be joining the club with immediate effect to assist the current management and to help smooth the transition to the new management team."

Shirebrook are currently bottom of the Division One table but are only three points away from safety with games in hand in what is turning out to be a very tight race to avoid relegation.

Crag Barnes was appointed as interim manager of the Langwith Road side in January following the departure of previous boss Jordan Catnott.

Ollerton, meanwhile, still have outside hopes of reaching the play-offs, ten points away from the top five in ninth spot.

Ollerton legends reunite for prostate cancer charity match

6th September, 2022

A team of Ollerton Town legends are set to take on a team of former Hull City professionals to raise money for leading men’s health charity, Prostate Cancer UK, and awareness of the disease that kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK.

The charity game, which takes place at Ollerton’s Walesby Lane Ground on Sunday 11th September, 2022, is part of a wider summer of fundraising activities led Gary Anthony, who was diagnosed with prostrate cancer back in 2020, and his friend, former Ollerton Town captain Jamie Allan.

The pair, along with a group of friends, shall be taking part in a sponsored Skydive from 15,000 feet and this comes after Jamie completed a ‘100 miles in May’ challenge.

The target is £20,000 from across the events which, if raised, shall make a huge difference to this very worthwhile charity.

This Sunday's event, which has been kindly sponsored by Staton Mortgages, promises to be a fantastic occasion.

Many of the successful Ollerton Town team from 2008 are getting their boots back on for it, looking to recapture some of the success which saw them win the Central Midlands Premier Division title and reach the Notts Senior Cup Final.

Following the game, there will be a Family Fun Day up at the Olde Red Lion in Wellow which will include raffles, an auction, children’s entertainment and a live band.

Some of the prizes on offer in the auction include a signed Nottingham Forest shirt, Mansfield Town tickets and a free game of four-ball golf at Coxmoor Golf Club.

Though Gary struggled initially to process and discuss his diagnosis, he is now looking at it with a more positive mind frame which is what is driving his fundraising.

He said: "Initially I wasn’t open with [my family] and didn’t discuss how I was feeling.

"It might seem daunting and embarrassing at first but, if caught early enough, prostate cancer is treatable and you can continue to live a full and healthy life; about 400,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer."

Nicola Tallett, Director of Fundraising & Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK, said: "Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and the COVID-19 pandemic has made living with a diagnosis only harder.

"Thankfully, the support of Gary and so many other wonderfully generous people has allowed us to continue funding research into better tests and treatments, to stop prostate cancer being a killer.

"Hard times show what people stand for. When the future is uncertain and the choices are tough, we stand for men with prostate cancer.

"We thank Gary, Jamie and everyone else involved for going that extra mile."

Ollerton secure ground lease and become fan owned

20th July, 2022

An exciting new era for sport and community activity in Ollerton has begun with the launch of community-owned Ollerton Town Community Football Club.

After years of uncertainty since the closure of Ollerton & Bevercotes Miners Welfare, the long-term future of sport at the Walesby Lane Sports Ground has finally been secured with the signing of a 25-year lease.

This not only guarantees a sporting venue in Ollerton for the foreseeable future, but the lease also allows the site to have access to a wide range of funding which shall go towards the improvement and development of the land, with the aim of creating a community sports hub for Ollerton and the surrounding area.

The land has been the home of the football club for many years and over that time the club has been called several different names including Ollerton & Bevercotes FC before changing its name in 1994 to Ollerton Town FC.

Moving forward, the club will be called Ollerton Town Community Football Club to reflect the creation of the new Community Benefit Society.

This CBS was developed with the aim of "creating the most vibrant community club that provides a space and facility to develop recreational participation throughout the Ollerton and surrounding areas."

Whilst the football club will continue on the site and remain in charge of their own club affairs, the CBS will look to develop and oversee a new facility that will be the home of the football club as well as any other sports teams that join the site in the future.

Though the football club is at the heart of this development currently, in future the plan is to develop a multi-sports facility which enriches the sporting opportunities for Ollerton and its residents.

With the Walesby Lane site at the heart of Ollerton already, and with more houses being built nearby as part of the Gleeson Homes development behind Petersmith Drive, the site should play an integral part of community and that is why anyone can have their say and own their part of the Ollerton Town Community Football Club through its membership scheme.

For £1, people can become members and owners of the club for life, guaranteeing them a place at the AGM and a vote on any big issues, putting the facility at Walesby Lane truly into the hands of the community so the town of Ollerton can work together to provide sports facilities and a community space that all can be proud of.

It is hoped that under the stewardship of Ollerton Town Community Football Club there shall be a phased-development of the site that leads to a natural growth of the sporting opportunities on offer, including women’s, junior and disabled sport which shall only benefit Ollerton and the surrounding area.

Richard Irving, Network Manager for Community-Owned Clubs at the Football Supporters Association said: "By joining Ollerton Town Community FC, as a member you will be contributing to a club that now operates the same model as over forty other football clubs in England and Wales from AFC WImbledon, Exeter City and Newport County in the EFL to names such as FC United of Manchester and Scarborough Athletic in non-league, all of whom are operating the community benefit society framework that ensure sustainability for their clubs.”

The club shall shortly be accepting memberships whilst an official launch event shall take place on Tuesday 16th August, 2022, when the football team take on a Nottingham Forest XI at Walesby Lane.
