NCEL Match Review #47
29th January, 2009
It was another midweek fixture list decimated by the bad weather, but there was still plenty of drama in the KoolSport NCEL matches that went ahead.
The most dramatic came at the Euronics Ground as hosts Barton Town Old Boys shared ten goals with Hallam in the Presidents Cup Second Round before bowing out on penalties.
The visitors thought they were going through in normal time as they entered the last ten minutes with a 3-1 advantage.
James Tevendale and Rob Ward had put them two-up in the first half before Craig Burdick pulled one back for Barton in injury time.
After the break, Ward got his second and Hallam's third on 72 minutes but a late Tom Lee double forced extra time.
This time, it was Barton's turn to think they had done enough to progress when Burdick made it 4-3 in the first period and Nathan White got a fifth on 108 minutes.
But, Tevendale struck twice to complete his hat-trick, the third being on the stroke of full-time, and the game finished 5-5.
Hallam then went through 3-1 on spot kicks and will now face either Liversedge or Nostell Miners Welfare at home in the Semi-Finals.
In the Premier Division, bottom side Eccleshill United picked up their first point since October as they came from behind to draw 2-2 at seventeenth-placed Brodsworth Welfare.
Steve Rollinson and Lee Snodin had put the home side two-up by the half-hour but Andy Howland and Andy Philp struck in the opening five minutes of the second period to claim the draw.
Armthorpe Welfare moved up to twelfth with a 2-0 win at Thackley, a Lee Ashforth own goal on 26 minutes followed quickly by a Liam Hardy strike earned the victory.
Askern Villa tightened their grip on a top-two finish in Division One as they won 5-0 at home to Bottesford Town.
Curtis Walker got four of their goals before Mark Vickerage concluded the scoring on 87 minutes.
Brighouse Town, meanwhile, claimed a 4-0 victory over visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
A Danny Ryan brace in the first period put them well on the way before Christopher Wdowczyk and Joseph Townsend made sure of the win in the last twenty minutes.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway bowed out of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy at the Semi-Final stage as they lost 4-0 at Boston Town.
And, Leeds Carnegie completed their BUCS Premier League North campaign with a 4-1 home win over Northumbria University.
